I had to change my router yesterday and I've had isasues with Sonos ever since. I'm able to run it on my phone and Ipad but sometimes I'll get a message on my laptop that it can't find my Sonos system. I thought I had fixed it earlier, I was able load it and load in my music on my laptop and it worked for about an hour. I can see my playlist but it can't find any of the songs when I try to play them. I think it may be Defender that is causing the problem, but I don't understand why I get it to run for a little while and it stops again. I spent 3.5 hours on the phone with Sonos yesterday I don't think it's the software. I'm able to stream music, I just can't access the musin on my laptop. Any suggestions would be appretiated

I just spent the weekend on the same problem.

    Setup:

    • Living Room - Play Bar hard wired, Wi-Fi enabled and SonosNet configured+2 Symfonik wall speakers
    • Bedroom - single Symfonik bookshelf speaker

    Sonos App on Android

    • Detects system and all devices, albeit I have issues with devices dropping off and on (another problem)
    • Can control and play to devices and rooms

    Sonos App on Windows

    • After having to update all my devices firmware and the app, the app could no longer find my system
    • Uninstalled, reinstalled, disabled Windows firewall
    • Tried hard wiring my computer, switching Play Bar to only Wi-Fi and disabled Wi-Fi
    • Looked into the diagnostic endpoints of the devices (http://ip-address:1400/support/review)

I suspected it had something to do with the device discovery, but neither my router/firewall, DNS, or software on my computer was the problem.

TURNS OUT THE (NEW) SONOS APP (I held off on updating for a long time for exactly this reason) has a bloody upnp toggle, and not in the section you would expect!

In your (working) mobile Sonos App:

    • Go to your Account settings (not the Settings gear)
    • Under Legal and Privacy -> Privacy & Security
    • Under Connection Security -> enable UPnP

You should be able to discover your Sonos system on your Windows computer now. This likely would affect Mac OS installations as well.

Hello Jack Zasadzinski, thanks for posting this in our community.

Based on your description, the issue likely involves network discovery or firewall permissions on the laptop. It could also be related to SMB file sharing or the Sonos library path being broken after the router change. Another possibility is that Windows Defender Firewall is intermittently blocking Sonos ports.

First, verify that your laptop is connected to the same Wi-Fi network and band (preferably 2.4 GHz) as your Sonos devices. If you are using a VPN or proxy, try disabling it temporarily.

Next, check the Sonos library path. Open the Sonos app on your laptop and go to Manage > Music Library Settings. Confirm that the folder path is correct and accessible. If the router change altered network paths, remove the music library and add it again.

Review your Windows Defender Firewall settings. Go to Windows Security > Firewall & Network Protection > Allow an app through firewall. Make sure Sonos Controller is allowed for Private networks. If it is not listed, click Allow another app and add the Sonos executable from its installation path, typically C:\Program Files (x86)\Sonos\Sonos.exe.

Finally, check Controlled Folder Access in Windows Security. Navigate to Virus & Threat Protection > Ransomware Protection and either turn off Controlled Folder Access or add Sonos as an allowed app.

    Kind regards,

    John Oli

It sounds like you're experiencing connectivity issues with your Sonos system on your laptop after changing your router. Here are a few suggestions that might help resolve the problem:

    1. Check Network Connection: Ensure that your laptop is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Sonos system. Sometimes, devices can connect to different networks, especially after a router change.
    2. Restart Devices: Restart your laptop, Sonos system, and router. This can often resolve temporary connectivity issues.
    3. Firewall Settings: Since you mentioned that you suspect Windows Defender might be causing the issue, check the firewall settings. Make sure that the Sonos application is allowed through the firewall. You can do this by going to the Windows Defender settings and ensuring that Sonos is listed as an allowed app.
    4. Update Software: Ensure that both your Sonos app and Windows are up to date. Sometimes, compatibility issues can arise from outdated software.
    5. Remove Third-Party Security Software: If you have any third-party security applications installed, consider temporarily disabling or uninstalling them to see if they are interfering with the Sonos app.
    6. Check for Interference: If you have other devices connected to your Wi-Fi, they may be causing interference. Try disconnecting them to see if that improves the connection.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to reach out to Microsoft Support for further assistance regarding Windows Defender or any other potential conflicts.
