Hi Azure support, we have one domain in our Azure subscription and it expired about 20 days ago. We need to renew it but I can't do it through the Azure portal. Can you please help?

    Hii John,

It sounds like you're in a bit of a pinch trying to renew your expired domain. No worries, I can help guide you through the process.

Since your domain expired about 20 days ago, here’s the rundown on what you can do:

    1. Renew within the Safe Period: Since you're within the first 18 days after expiration, you can still renew your domain at the regular price through the Azure portal.

    Steps to Renew the Domain:

    • Search for and select App Service Domains in the Azure portal.
      • Choose the domain you want to renew.
        • From the left navigation, select Domain renewal and look for a Renew domain button. If it's active, you can proceed with the renewal directly from there.
          • Make sure your billing information is up-to-date as you'll be charged for the renewal.
If You're Past the 18 Days: If you were to wait until after this period (between 18 to 42 days), you'd need to pay a higher redemption fee for the domain. Important Note: If your domain has been expired for more than 42 days, it could go to auction, and you would need to repurchase it if it's available.

In case the Renew domain button isn't showing up, there may be a few reasons like browser cache or permissions issues.

    Hi @John Lund
The domain had already moved out of the normal grace period, where self-service renewal is usually possible. Although some documentation references an 18-day renewal window, in practice Azure App Service Domains follow the registrar (GoDaddy) timeline, which means that once the domain approaches the Redemption Period, the Renew Domain button stops appearing. In their case, Support confirmed the domain could not be renewed directly in the portal and initiated a manual redemption request with GoDaddy, which restored the domain after the customer approved the additional fee. The customer later confirmed the domain became active again and DNS settings were preserved.

Let me know if you have any further assistances needed.
