I downloaded a Windows 11 version 25H2 update. The Realtek Audio driver no longer works. I get the following note on my Device Manger for Realtek (R) Audio: "This device cannot start. (Code 10) The policy object does not exist when it should."

HELP,

Ed Hanel

To resolve the issue with your Realtek Audio driver showing "This device cannot start. (Code 10) The policy object does not exist when it should," you can try the following steps:

    1. Uninstall the Device:
      • Open Device Manager.
      • Locate Realtek Audio in the list of devices.
      • Right-click on it and select Uninstall Device.
      • Make sure not to check the option to delete the driver software for this device.
      • After uninstalling, restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
    2. Update the Driver:
      • After restarting, if the issue persists, go back to Device Manager.
      • Right-click on Realtek Audio and select Update Driver.
      • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
      • Follow the prompts to install any available updates.
    3. Check for Windows Updates:
      • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
      • Click on Check for updates to ensure you have the latest updates installed, which may include driver updates.
    4. Connect to a Different USB Port (if applicable):
      • If your Realtek Audio device is external, try connecting it to a different USB port to see if that resolves the issue.
    5. Install Device-Specific Driver:
      • If the device is not yet connected, install the device-specific driver first using the installer provided by the manufacturer, then connect the device.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to contact your device manufacturer for further assistance regarding the necessary drivers for your specific hardware configuration.

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

    In the device manager,

    1. Right-click the Realtek (R) driver, select Uninstall device, select the Attempt to remove the driver for this device check box, and then select Uninstall.
    2. Once uninstalled, restart your PC.
    3. (Windows will automatically reinstall the drivers for your PC).
    4. Check the audio output after restarting your computer.

If you're still having issues, visit your PC manufacturer's website and download and install the audio drivers for your specific device model.

If you have trouble finding the right drivers, type msinfo into the search bar on the taskbar and press Enter. Then, post a screenshot of the dialog box that appears.
