Custom Vision region

Hello,

I am using an Azure for Students subscription with the university credits. When I try to create Custom Vision resources (both Training and Prediction), the deployment fails with the following error: RequestDisallowedByAzure: This policy maintains a set of best available regions where your subscription can deploy resources. Should you need additional or different regions, contact support.

It seems that my subscription has a policy that blocks the creation of these resources in the regions available in the portal, preventing me from completing my university labs.

Could you please check which regions are allowed for my subscription or adjust/remove the policy so that I can deploy Custom Vision resources?

Thank you.

It appears that your Azure for Students subscription is subject to a policy that restricts the regions where resources can be deployed. This is likely why you are encountering the RequestDisallowedByAzure error when trying to create Custom Vision resources.

To resolve this issue, you have a couple of options:

    1. Select an Alternative Region: You can try deploying your resources in a different Azure region that is allowed under your subscription's policy.
    2. Contact Support: If you have a specific business need or if you believe that additional regions should be available for your subscription, you can submit a support request through the Azure portal. This request can help you inquire about which regions are permitted for your subscription or to request an adjustment to the policy.

To submit a support request, you can follow these steps:

    • Sign in to the Azure portal.
    • Navigate to the support section and create a new support request, specifying your issue regarding region access.

This should help you either find a suitable region for your deployment or get the necessary support to address the policy restrictions.

    Hello Simone Fabbretti,

I understand this is blocking your university labs.

The error RequestDisallowedByAzure confirms that your Azure for Students subscription has a strict Azure Policy applied to it. This policy restricts you to creating resources in only a small set of pre-approved regions (usually 3–5 specific regions like East US, West Europe, etc.).

You cannot remove this policy yourself, and Azure Support typically will not lift it for student subscriptions. However, you can almost certainly resolve this by deploying to one of your allowed regions that also supports Custom Vision.

    **
Here is the step-by-step plan to fix this:**

Step 1: Find Your "Allowed" Regions

    1. Log in to the Azure Portal.
    2. Search for and open "Policy".
    3. In the left menu, click Assignments.
    4. Look for an assignment named "Allowed resource deployment regions" (or similar). Click on it.
    5. Click the "Parameters" tab.
    6. You will see a list of regions (e.g., eastus, centralus, westeurope). Write these down. These are the only places you can create resources.

Step 2: Now, check which of your allowed regions support the Custom Vision service.

    • Custom Vision is widely available in East US, West US 2, North Central US, South Central US, West Europe, and North Europe.
    • Find a region that is on both your list from Step 1 and the list of supported regions.

Step 3: When you create your Custom Vision resource deploy Specifically to that region:

    1. Resource Group: Create a new Resource Group and set its region to your matched region (e.g., East US).
    2. Instance Details: Ensure the Location for the Custom Vision resource itself is also set to that same matched region.
    3. Pricing Tier: For student labs, ensure you select the Free (F0) tier if available, or Standard (S0) if you have credits.

Note: If you try to deploy to a region that supports Custom Vision (like East US 2) but it is not on your "Allowed" list, the deployment will fail. You must stick to the intersection of both lists.
