I Have A New Dell I bought in June of 2025 since Day One the microphone in PL (Phone Link) has not worked. All other features in PL work and the microphone works in all the other apps.

I would have uninstalled reinstalled PL but it's not listed in Microsoft Store.
In Settings/ Privacy and Security/ Microphone
PL is not listed to throw the toggle switch.

This AM I had Dell try for two hours, They did nothing I wouldn't would not have done.

I Started Operating, Programming IBM mainframe 360, 370s in 1972,
I still have Microsoft Word V1.x with Original green mouse

This has got me stumped.

Thanks Muchly Suchly

Hi Howard, I get why this has you scratching your head. The issue usually comes down to how Phone Link handles permissions, it’s treated as a system component, so it doesn’t show up under Microphone privacy settings like other apps. That means even though your mic works everywhere else, Phone Link can’t grab it because Windows isn’t giving it the right access.

First thing I’d check is that your mic is set as both the default device and default communication device in Sound settings.

Also make sure global mic access and “Let desktop apps access your microphone” are turned on. If that looks good, try resetting Phone Link under Settings > System Components > Phone Link > Advanced Options. If it’s still acting up, we can remove and reinstall it using PowerShell.

Quick question, are you using Bluetooth for calls or sticking with the built-in mic? That helps narrow down if it’s a permissions issue or a missing audio profil.

    Regards,

    Rez

Got it, Howard. If you’re using the Logitech USB camera mic, that’s helpful because it rules out Bluetooth profile issues. When you checked Sound settings, you probably saw “Set Default” and “Set as Default Communication Device” as two separate options—your mic should ideally have both checked. If you only see one, right-click the mic and see if you can select “Set as Default Communication Device” after setting it as Default. If that’s already done and Phone Link still ignores the mic, the next step is reinstalling Phone Link through PowerShell since the reset didn’t fix it. I can give you the exact commands for that. Do you want me to send those now?
