"There was an error sending this message to your bot." - how to get the actual error?

I've set up a bot, but when I try to talk to it, it seems it never receives the message. In channels section I see issues, but all it says is "There was an error sending this message to your bot."
How do I find out what the error is?
As far as I can tell, a message is never sent to the configured messaging endpoint as I don't see any messages in my logs. If I send a request directly to the messaging endpoint myself, then I do see it in my logs.

Here is a step-by-step “from generic message to root cause”
- Portal → Bot → Test in Web Chat. Send a message; click the Issues entry to capture the HTTP code shown. [learn.microsoft.com]
- App Insights Logs run the Kusto queries above. Note the resultCode/exception and stack. [learn.microsoft.com]
- Check configuration: AppId/AppPassword/AppType, endpoint HTTPS & path, TLS/SSL “HTTPS Only”. [stackoverflow.com], [learn.microsoft.com], [stackoverflow.com]
- If Teams, verify channel & org policy; test with Get bot embed code link or other channel to isolate Teams client/policy issues. [learn.microsoft.com]
- If you still get nothing in logs, the connector likely never reached your app—look at cert/trust or firewall/DNS (use Kudu console to
nslookup/curlDirect Line/Teams endpoints). [learn.microsoft.com]

2025-11-28T09:53:00.83+00:00 It doesn't answer the main question - how to get the actual error, when one is reported in the channels pane. It also looks almost identical to the AI answer I was initially offered...
I have since determined what the problem was and the real error was almost certainly "Connection Refused", but the Issues entry for the channel didn't give anything beyond "an error".
