I need to transfer two storage accounts from one Azure subscription to another.

I need to transfer two storage accounts from one Azure subscription to another. The challenge is that I must recreate the storage accounts using the same names in the target subscription. However, once I delete the existing storage accounts, Azure enforces a 15-day retention period before the names become available again, and I cannot wait for that duration.

Could you please advise if an exception can be made or if there is any workaround that would allow me to use the same storage account names immediately in the new subscription?

    Hi @ Abuzar Khan

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Platform.

Could you please advise if an exception can be made or if there is any workaround that would allow me to use the same storage account names immediately in the new subscription?

Unfortunately, no. Azure preserves globally unique names for resources, so you cannot create a new Storage Account with the same name until the old Storage Account with that name has been deleted.

As a workaround, you can create new Storage Accounts in another subscription immediately, using a slightly different name as shown below. This avoids downtime and eliminates the need to wait 15 days.
