When i sit beside a colleague and we join the same teams meeting, where no meeting rooms are available.
I can hear them talking in the room and also a second time on the teams meeting.
I want to mute this person so I can not hear them, but everyone else can continue to hear them
I will continue to hear them within the room.

Hi @Darby, Andrew,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
Regarding your request to mute a specific participant in a Microsoft Teams meeting only on your side, I’d like to clarify that currently, Teams does not offer a built-in feature to mute an individual participant's audio just for yourself. The mute function in Teams only allows you to mute someone for everyone in the meeting (if you have the necessary permissions).
Personally, I believe this would be a valuable enhancement. As you could reduce the echo voice from other user who are having meeting in the same area. It definitely great improvement to the current availabilities of Microsoft Team apps. In that case, I sincerely recommend you go to Feedback community hare it through the official Microsoft Feedback Portal. This is the best way The Product Team is in-charge of the feedback site, and they are constantly checking the comments and feedback from our customer. Many features have been developed or improved based on users' comment.
As a moderator, I don’t have the ability to change or influence Microsoft’s product design or service limitations directly.
How to Submit Your Suggestion to Microsoft:.
1.Visit the Microsoft Feedback Portal:
-Go to: Microsoft Teams · Community then Send Feedback and Describe your proposal in detail
Describe your suggestion clearly for example:
“Allow muting a person only for yourself .”
After post your feedback on the Microsoft Teams · Community , feel free to share the link here. I would be happy to vote for it, and I’m sure other users with similar concerns would appreciate the chance to support it too. .As you know, the Microsoft Q&A forum is quite large, so to help other members with similar ideas find your post more easily, you can upvote the answer. That way other user who want the same feature can vote it and it can also be pinned and gain more visibility.
You are not alone I see that a lot of other user also have post for this feature:
Additional features added to MUTE feature. · Community
Individual User Volume Control · Community
Mute for me · Community
Alternatively you could submitting feedback directly to the Microsoft product team through the Teams app.
Thank you again for your time and understanding. While my initial response may not resolve the issue immediately, I’d like to gather more details about your situation so I can assist you more effectively.
I really appreciate your patience, and I’m here to help. Looking forward to your response!

Currently, Microsoft Teams does not provide a feature that allows you to mute a specific participant's audio for yourself while still allowing others to hear them. When you are in a Teams meeting, the audio from all participants is typically mixed together, and you cannot selectively mute individual participants without affecting the overall audio for everyone else.
However, you can consider using the following workaround:
If this is a frequent issue, providing feedback to Microsoft through their support channels may help them consider adding such a feature in the future.
