Accessing, sharing, and managing documents and media within Microsoft Teams Free
Hello Ben Nguyen,
Thank you for posting your question to Microsoft Q&A forum.
I understand you are stuck in a frustrating loop asking for parental consent, even when you are an adult. This usually happens when the date of birth on the account is incorrect, making the system believe it's a child account.
Since the system is demanding a parent, the only way to break this loop is to create a new, temporary "adult" account and use it to approve your own (locked) account.
Here is the step-by-step process:
Stage 1: Crate a new dummy "parent" account
- Open a New InPrivate (in Edge) or Incognito (in Chrome) browser window.
- Go to https://signup.live.com/ to create a brand new, temporary Microsoft account.
- Important: When it asks for your Date of Birth, enter a date that makes you clearly an adult. (Tip: To be an adult, the account holder needs to be at least 18 years old, except in Canada where they need to be at least 19 years old.)
- Finish creating this new, temporary "adult" account. Keep this window open.
Stage 2: Use the new "parent" account to give consent to your own account
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/ and try to log in with your main, locked account.
- When it shows, "Parent or guardian consent is required," follow the prompts.
- It will eventually ask for a parent to sign in to give consent.
- When it asks for the parent's email, enter the new, temporary "adult" account you just created in Stage 1.
- Follow the steps to grant consent. It may ask you to use a credit card to prove the parent account is an adult. Use your credit card here. (This is for age verification and is often a small, refundable charge).
- Once you have successfully given consent, your main account will be unlocked.
Stage 3: Fix Your Account and Leave the Family
Once your main account is unlocked, you need to fix your birthday and leave the "Family" you just created.
- Log in to your main, unlocked account.
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/profile and correct your real date of birth.
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/family. You will see that you are now in a "family" with your temporary guardian account.
- Click "Leave family group" to break the link.
I hope these steps help you resolve this loop and regain full access to your account. Please let me know how these suggestions work for you, or if you'd like assistance in navigating Microsoft's support channels.
