Unable to Edit Microsoft Word Documents on my iPad Despite Having a 365 Subscription

I have Microsoft 365 for Businesses through my work. I have always been able to edit Microsoft Word documents on my iPad Gen 10 when I need to work from home. Recently we had an issue where our Business account lapsed and I temporarily did not have access to 365. That was solved, my account is up and running again, but since then I have not been able to edit Word documents on my iPad. I have reset my account, signed up and signed back in, uninstalled the app, but nothing works.

I also can't figure out how to contact someone about this. This has to be fixed. I can't get work done at home if the app refuses to sync with my Microsoft 365 account.

    Hi @Megan P

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum. To better understand your situation and provide the most accurate assistance, could you please clarify a few details:

    • Are you unable to edit all documents, or only specific ones (such as older files, shared documents, or certain formats)?
    • Can you still create and edit new documents without any issues?
    • When you try to edit, do you simply find the option unavailable, or do you see any error messages or banners?
    • Is your iPad running the latest version of iOS and the Word app?
    • Are you able to edit documents using Word Online (via a browser) with the same account?
    • Has anyone else in your organization experienced a similar issue?

These details will help us determine whether the problem is related to account synchronization, licensing, or app settings.

Please understand that our initial response may not fully resolve the issue or meet your expectations immediately. However, with your help, patience, and more detailed information, we can work together to find the most suitable solution or direction forward.

If you have any updates or additional questions, feel free to reply in the comments below. I look forward to hearing from you and continuing to assist.

Thank you again for reaching out!

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with your Microsoft 365 subscription on your iPad after a temporary lapse. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Check Your Subscription Status: Ensure that your Microsoft 365 subscription is active and properly assigned to your account. You can verify this by logging into your Microsoft 365 account on a web browser.
    2. Sign Out and Sign Back In: Sometimes, simply signing out of the app and signing back in can help refresh your account status. Make sure you are using the correct account associated with your subscription.
    3. Check App Permissions: Ensure that the Microsoft Word app has the necessary permissions to access your documents. You can check this in your iPad's settings under the app permissions.
    4. Update the App: Make sure that your Microsoft Word app is updated to the latest version available on the App Store. An outdated app may cause functionality issues.
    5. Reinstall the App: Since you've already tried uninstalling the app, ensure that you restart your iPad after uninstalling and before reinstalling the app from the App Store.
    6. Contact Support: If none of the above steps work, you may need to contact Microsoft 365 support for further assistance. You can find support options by visiting the Microsoft support website or through the app itself.

If the problem persists, it may be beneficial to check with your IT department, as they may have specific configurations or settings for your work account.
