I Keep getting "The Name Cannot be matched to a name in the address list." when trying to connect my business email to outlook through exchange

last week outlook disconnected my exchange email. When I tried to get it back in outlook (2024 version 2509) I keep getting that message in a pop up box. My email provider told me that I have an account through Microsoft and that is interfering with my domain name connection to exchange. I have not made any changes to my computer that I know of. I have Microsoft 365 for the OneDrive to back up my files, and for word/excel.

I found the solution. I had used my business email to connect to Microsoft 365 for the OneDrive, Word, and Excel. I had to remove it from that service. When outlook tried to get my email settings, it looked at Microsoft first. It showed I had an account there, but no exchange service there. That's why it said it could not match a name. once I removed the account from 365 it worked in outlook classic 2024.

    Hi @Jeff Hamilton
Thank you for posting question to Microsoft Q&A Forum and sharing your experience about this situation.

The issue usually happens when there is an account not having Exchange license from Microsoft (which means you are not using Microsoft as your email service provider and Outlook is only served as email client). Once you make sure that you are not connecting to this account via Outlook as Exchange Server you are not likely to meet that issue anymore like this screenshot below (unless you are using Exchange Server for your email).

A small suggestion is that if there are people who only want to use Microsoft 365 only for application aspect (OneDrive, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) without using Microsoft as email service provider, please consider using this license - Microsoft 365 Apps for Business.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Your sharing solution is appreciated and it could be referenced for future similar issues.
