    When you register a device on your Microsoft account online, it is only if that is a Microsoft manufactured device like a Surface laptop that the serial number of the device is linked to your account online, for all other devices, your device serial number is not linked to your account.

    If your device has been lost, if you had the Location Services setting enabled and also the 'Fin My Device' settings enabled, are you able to find the device location using the steps further down on this link, the location of the device will only update if someone has found your device and connected it to the Internet.
