When I try to create an Azure AI Foundry recourse in any region I get the following error:

RequestDisallowedByAzure InvalidTemplateDeployment: Resource 'RECOURCE NAME' was disallowed by Azure: This policy maintains a set of best available regions where your subscription can deploy resources. The objective of this policy is to ensure that your subscription has full access to Azure services with optimal performance. Should you need additional or different regions, contact support..

Thanks in advance.

Is there a way to check which regions are allowed for us to deploy the resources in?

    Hello Solenopsisbot,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A and thank you for reaching out.

I understand that you’re encountering an issue while deploying Azure AI Foundry resources due to regional policy restrictions on your Azure for Students subscription. The error message you shared.

“Resource was disallowed by Azure: This policy maintains a set of best available regions where your subscription can deploy resources…”

indicates that your current subscription is limited to specific regions and resource types based on Microsoft’s policy for student accounts. This policy helps ensure that all student subscriptions use reliable, cost-efficient regions for optimal performance and learning experiences.

    Why You’re Seeing This

The Azure for Students subscription includes certain region and resource limitations. This means that not all Azure services, including AI Foundry, are available in every region for student accounts. These restrictions are implemented to maintain performance and manage available capacity for educational subscriptions.

In your case, the region you selected while creating the AI Foundry resource might not be part of the allowed deployment list for your subscription type. That’s why the request was disallowed by Azure.

    What You Can Do

Try deploying your Azure AI Foundry resource in a different region such as East US, West Europe, or France Central. Some of these regions generally have broader availability for educational or trial subscriptions. You can test this directly from the Azure Portal → Create Resource → Region dropdown.

Please verify that you are using an Azure for Students subscription. You can confirm this under Cost Management + Billing → Subscriptions in your Azure Portal. If you’ve already reached certain limits or need access to more regions and AI services, consider upgrading to a Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) subscription. This upgrade removes the regional restrictions and allows deployment to all available Azure regions.

Since the error message specifically recommends contacting support, it’s best to raise a ticket with Azure Support for confirmation. You can do this by going to Help + Support → New Support Request → Subscription Management → Quotas or Policies. In your request, mention that you’re unable to deploy Azure AI Foundry because of policy restrictions under the Azure for Students plan and would like to know which regions are allowed for your subscription.

If regional restrictions are causing delays in your work or learning, consider upgrading to a Pay-As-You-Go plan. This subscription type provides full access to Azure AI Foundry and other AI services without deployment limitations. Upgrading is simple and does not incur charges unless you use paid resources. You can add a payment method (credit or debit card) and continue building without waiting for monthly credit resets.

While waiting for access or a response from support, you can still explore Azure AI Studio Playground or other AI services such as Language, Vision, or Speech depending on which regions are supported under your student plan. These can serve as effective alternatives for experimentation and learning.

This issue isn’t caused by a configuration error but by subscription-level policy restrictions specific to the Azure for Students offer. To deploy Azure AI Foundry successfully, you’ll need to either deploy your resource to a supported region or upgrade your subscription to Pay-As-You-Go for unrestricted regional access.

I Hope this helps. Do let me know if you have any further queries.

    Thank you!
