I understand how important it is to ensure a seamless transition when switching from your iPhone XS to your new Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.
On iOS, the in-app backup feature now relies on Apple iCloud and iCloud Keychain. If these are enabled in your iPhone settings, account names will restore when setting up another iPhone, but you’ll still need to sign in again for verification codes.
However, since you're switching to Android, iCloud data won't transfer directly. The supported method for cross-platform moves is Microsoft Cloud Backup, which is linked to your Microsoft account. Please refer to this article for full instructions: Restore account credentials from Microsoft Authenticator.
Please note: Even with backups enabled, only the list of account names is restored, you must re-sign in on the new device to activate codes. Please complete verification before resetting your old iPhone to avoid lockouts.
If you didn't enable this on your iPhone before switching, you'll need to manually re-register your accounts on the new device. Manual fallback if recovery isn’t possible:
- Sign in to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info with your work account.
- Remove the old device from your security info list then select Add method > Authenticator app then complete verification. This is required for accounts that cannot be restored automatically.
Regarding the Microsoft Teams avatar not updating on your new device, Teams messages sync quickly, but profile changes can take time to propagate. For more details: Change your profile picture in Microsoft Teams. You may consider trying these steps:
- Sign out and sign back in on the Samsung device.
- Check if the avatar is updated in Teams web. If it shows correctly there, clear the Teams app cache: Samsung Settings > Apps > Teams > Storage > Clear Cache. Or you can refer to this guide: Manage your data and storage in Microsoft Teams Free.
As for setting up OneDrive on Android and backing up your Samsung Gallery, you can refer to this article for detailed information: Use OneDrive on Android and iOS devices. This will automatically back up photos and videos from Samsung Gallery to OneDrive. However, please note that this feature is primarily for personal accounts.
I hope this explanation helps clarify the situation. Please let me know how you get on, as your feedback is valuable to the community.
