How to stop edge from talking aloud to me when I click the microphone button

I have disabled the narrator both in windows and in edge on my Surface Pro 6 and when I click the microphone button on edge the narrator still talks to me.

I asked copilot and tried the 4 of 5 suggestions:

Turn Off Read Aloud in Edge

Check Voice Settings

Registry Reset (Advanced)

Extensions Check

I did not do the group policy change as I do not have enterprise system.

While I was typing this post, my SP6 spoke "Hey Joseph" and when I looked it responded with "Gotcha". I wish to use edge in the same way that Googles chrome works. If I click the microphone and state "Spell condescending as in you are speaking with a condescending voice, Chrome spells it out where I can read it. If I ask edge all I get is a voice reply. If I ask edge to spell it out and put in on the display so I can read the spelling, it states it will do that, but it simply repeats the audio using a condescending voice. I tried this several time and I assume CoPilot got tired of me asking the same question and did the "Gotcha"

    Hi Joseph,

Right now, Microsoft’s voice interaction in Edge is still evolving, and unfortunately, it doesn’t yet offer the same flexibility as Chrome’s voice search. If your goal is to get text-based responses, typed input remains the most reliable method in Edge for now.

Even if you’ve disabled Narrator and Read Aloud, Copilot’s voice responses are separate and controlled by different settings. Unfortunately, Microsoft hasn’t yet provided a universal toggle to fully disable these vocal responses in all versions of Edge, especially on desktop.

Here are a few things you can check or adjust to reduce or disable the voice responses:

Turn off voice responses in Bing (if available)

    Go to Bing.com in Edge.

Click the menu (three lines) in the top-right corner.

    Navigate to Settings > More.

Look for any Voice Search options and disable “Read results aloud”.

This setting is sometimes only visible when using Bing directly, not in Edge’s main settings.

     Block microphone access in Edge

If you’d prefer to stop voice input altogether:

    Open Edge > Settings.

Go to Cookies and site permissions > Microphone.

Either block microphone access entirely or restrict it to specific sites.

    Check for Copilot voice settings

Some versions of Edge include a toggle for voice responses:

    Open Edge Settings.

Look for Copilot or AI features.

If available, disable Voice responses or Speech output.

This option may not appear for all users yet, as Microsoft is still rolling out updates to Copilot and Edge.

Let me know how it goes, Happy to help!

I will just have to use google or my iPhone until the problem is fixed. I would like to point out that I authorized win11 to recognize my face for login. I did not authorize it to monitor my head with it's camera, and yell "gotcha" when I looked a the SP6. I assume this is not an easter egg programmed in by the Micro$oft staff but a prank the AI thought up after it was unable to answer by query.
