Hi Joseph,
Right now, Microsoft’s voice interaction in Edge is still evolving, and unfortunately, it doesn’t yet offer the same flexibility as Chrome’s voice search. If your goal is to get text-based responses, typed input remains the most reliable method in Edge for now.
Even if you’ve disabled Narrator and Read Aloud, Copilot’s voice responses are separate and controlled by different settings. Unfortunately, Microsoft hasn’t yet provided a universal toggle to fully disable these vocal responses in all versions of Edge, especially on desktop.
Here are a few things you can check or adjust to reduce or disable the voice responses:
Turn off voice responses in Bing (if available)
Go to Bing.com in Edge.
Click the menu (three lines) in the top-right corner.
Navigate to Settings > More.
Look for any Voice Search options and disable “Read results aloud”.
This setting is sometimes only visible when using Bing directly, not in Edge’s main settings.
Block microphone access in Edge
If you’d prefer to stop voice input altogether:
Open Edge > Settings.
Go to Cookies and site permissions > Microphone.
Either block microphone access entirely or restrict it to specific sites.
Check for Copilot voice settings
Some versions of Edge include a toggle for voice responses:
Open Edge Settings.
Look for Copilot or AI features.
If available, disable Voice responses or Speech output.
This option may not appear for all users yet, as Microsoft is still rolling out updates to Copilot and Edge.
Let me know how it goes, Happy to help!
