How can I reclaim our domain from a now unused Azure Tenant?

We recently split-off from our parent company and are now a standalone company. We took our domain and other IP with us. I am setting up a new Azure tenant and wnat to use our domain as a custom domain, but it is failing domain verification because it is used on another tenant.
Our domain is cloudamize.com.

According to whatismytenantid.com, our domain is being used on tenant: 3712a394-2d95-4f03-af3b-f02ca9f3ab66

This tenant is likely owned by our old parent company but is not in use anymore.

What do I need to do to reclaim our domain so I can use it on a new tenant?

    Hey there, Todd Erickson

You could speak to your old parent company and ask them to remove any resources that are using your domain name on their tenant. This will include any users, group email addresses etc...

Then they will need to delete your domain from their tenant so that their domain is the only domain available on their tenant.

Once they have done this, you should then be able to create your domain on your own tenant. Please also be aware that removing/deleting services using your domain in the old tenant will result in you losing your data.

    Hope this helps,
    Nathan
