Why can't I activate Visio 2021

I purchased Visio 2021 several years ago on a computer that no longer exists. It suffered from a hardware failure and would not even turn on, so I had to replace it. Unfortunately under those circumstances, I was unable to uninstall anything. Since then I have been able to install Office 2021 on my new computer successfully, but Visio refuses to activate, either on-line or on the phone. No sensible explanation has ever been provided for why it won't activate. I keep getting the unhelpful message: "We're Sorry, something went wrong and we can't do this for you right now. Please try again later. (0xC004C060)"

I have gotten very tired of seeing that damn message!

It might be appearing as already installed in your licensing database, but it is not in use on any machine of mine. Can you check and see if it shows up as installed anywhere, and if so invalidate that installation so I can install it on my new computer. Thank you!PII removed

    The error code 0xC004C060 means that the product key you are trying to use is no longer valid. This usually happens when:

    • The key has been blocked by Microsoft (often because it was reported lost, stolen, or misused).
    • The key was tied to a specific device and cannot be reactivated on new hardware.
    • The license type is OEM or volume-based, which typically does not allow transfer to another machine.

    Microsoft activation servers do not check whether you uninstalled the software. They only validate the key’s status. If the key is marked invalid or already consumed, activation will fail regardless of your previous machine’s condition.

    Kindly try these following steps:

    Check your Microsoft Account

    • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/servicesand sign in with the account you used to purchase Visio.
    • If Visio 2021 appears there, you should be able to download and activate it from that page.

    Verify the license type

    • If it’s a Retail license, you can usually transfer it to a new PC.
    • If it’s OEM or Volume, it’s locked to the original hardware.
