Multiple AVDs clipboard redirection is not working

We have multiple clients who cannot copy paste files from their desktop to their AVDs.

Clipboard redirection is enabled in the host pool

“Do not allow clipboard redirection” is set to Disabled

Server has been restarted.

dism/sfc have been run

Neither remote desktop msi or windows app are working

Running Windows 11 Enterprise multi-session

Thank you for reporting this issue. I have reviewed the Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) clipboard redirection feature.

As you mentioned, clipboard redirection is enabled in the host pool, and the policy “Do not allow clipboard redirection” is set to Disabled, which means clipboard redirection should be allowed.

Please ensure that your RDP file settings also reflect this configuration. You can verify the RDP properties for your host pool here:

Sometimes, Group Policies can override host pool settings. Please check that there are no conflicting policies on the session hosts:

Machine Policy: Computer Configuration -- Policies -- Administrative Templates -- Windows Components -- Remote Desktop Services -- Remote Desktop Session Host -- Device and Resource Redirection

User Policy: User Configuration -- Policies -- Administrative Templates -- Windows Components -- Remote Desktop Services -- Remote Desktop Session Host -- Device and Resource Redirection

Additionally, clipboard redirection issues on Windows 11 Enterprise multi-session AVDs are often caused by missing updates or policy misalignment. Please ensure that the session hosts are fully patched with the June 2024 cumulative update or later

The AVD has the latest patches. Intune is not being used and the group policies on the server are are correct. The issue persists

We had the exact same issue show up within the past few days. I found we had to enable drive redirection to get it working again. We never had it on before so I'm not sure why it's needed now.

The workaround I have for the moment is setting drive redirection to manually enter drives and then choosing a random unused letter. But I would like a better solution.

Thank you for your patience.

We wanted to provide you with an update regarding the clipboard file copy/paste issue you reported on Azure Virtual Desktop.

Root Cause: A recent service change caused the host pool drive redirection settings to also apply inside the session host VM. This resulted in file copy/paste via clipboard being blocked when drive redirection was disabled, although other clipboard operations (text, images) continued to work.

Changes and Resolution: The service change has now been reverted. With this reversion:

Clipboard-based file copy/paste now works without requiring drive redirection to be enabled.

You should now experience the same behavior as before the service change.

I am experiencing this issue, yet I have not seen any new updates available for the server.

Hi Matt,

There’s no KB or Windows Update linked to this issue. It was caused by a backend service change where disabling drive redirection in the host pool also blocked clipboard file copy. The change has now been reverted by the product team. Clipboard file transfers should work again without enabling drive redirection.

No conflicting Group Policies exist. Verify session hosts have the June 2024 update or later.

Was the change reverted in all zones? If so I will raise a new thread. As it is I have the same apparent start date as other users, but my issue persists.

The rollback for this change has been fully completed across all regions and zones.

If you’re still experiencing the clipboard file copy/paste issue, it’s likely due to a different underlying cause. I recommend creating a new thread with the details of your environment

Hi,

I have the same problem.

Machine: Windows 11 Enterprise 25h2

GPO and registry are OK, there are no blocks.

The host pool is configured correctly but it doesn't work.

I suspect it might be something in the machine's optimisation script.
