As of September 16th, 2025, if trying to install or upgrade Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise using WINGET, the Current Channel (PREVIEW) v16.0.19231.20072 is installed.

According to https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/current-channel-preview , the Current Channel (PREVIEW) versions are for Microsoft 365 Insider Program.
Why has Microsoft changed the behavior of WINGET to install the Insider preview versions?
Using Intune to detect and install latest Current Channel version using remediation script is now broken. The Office Tenant wide policy is to use Current Channel and not Insider/Preview.

Every time the winget upgrade script runs, it unsuccessfully attempts to install version 20072!
Experiencing the same issue. Probably due to Office policy configured for Current Channel and not PREVIEW versions.

Hi, I'm experiencing the same issue, is there any resolution or way to bypass this from occurring?
The only solution would be for Microsoft to return the Current Channel versions to WINGET repository and not default to Preview builds.
is there anyway this can be disabled from auto updating. I added a pin on the version: 16.0.19231.20072, but it still continues to pop up after restarting:
You could simply block further upgrades.

Those will prevent WINGET from installing the Preview version, but will not prevent the M365 Apps from self upgrading based on M365 Apps policy for automatic updates.
Neither pin fixes the issue with Microsoft releasing the Preview versions on Winget.
Neither pin fixes the issue with detection scripts listing the Preview version as available upgrade.
Current detection script workaround.
Use WINGET to pin the Current Channel version.

Hi, I have tried adding the pins suggested, which add successfully. However, upon a restart, I still receive a prompt that Windows will be upgraded from 16.0.19127.20240 to 16.0.19231.20072. A command prompt will then appear like this:
The Winget cmd I applied before restarting was: winget pin add --id Microsoft.Office --source winget --exact --version 16.0.19127.20240
I have also tried: winget pin add --id Microsoft.Office --source winget --exact --blocking
With the package pinned in WINGET, it should prevent WINGET from upgrading Office.

A newer version was found, but the package has a pin that prevents from upgrading it.
Checked today and the Winget repository now published the October 1st Current Channel version.
