Suddenly I keep getting a pop up saying it need my imap password. I have no idea what it is

I’m experiencing the same AOL IMAP issue with greater frequency. Doesn’t recognize my correct AOL password ever.

Pop-up now occurs every time I switch between email and safari on iPhone. Literally a hundred times a day!

Steps to get the AOL SMTP (app) password with or without 2-step verification were explained & a link provided. I finally asked How do I get an AOL IMAP password on my iPhone and an explanation was provided. Step by step easy to follow. The annoying pop-up ended immediately!!

The info at https://help.aol.com/articles/how-do-i-use-other-email-applications-to-send-and-receive-my-aol-mail seems promising. Maybe you have already tried it.

The pop up usually coming from your email client such as Outlook so it can access your email account. The IMAP password is just your email account password.

When prompted for the IMAP password, enter the same password you use to login in to your email in a web browser.

And what if I can’t remember my password! This is so stupid, you do this to me frequently. Out to nowhere I’m asked for my password after years of not needing it and now I’m locked out. Brilliant.

For a third-party mail service, your mail provider may offer a way to reset the password. Contact them.

I am having exactly the same issue. I have changed my password through Microsoft, but when I try to open emails on my phone I get 'Password Incorrect.. Enter the IMAP account 'Hotmail'" . The password for my account is correct. Very frustrating.

IMAP password is different from the email password. I have AOL & an iPhone. ChatGPT was able to guide me through the process easily. The IMAP password pop-up stopped immediately!
