Outlook forcing google sign-in

I am on Windows 11, using New Outlook for Windows, but I have never signed into the outlook app before. Whenever I open it, it takes me to a page in my browser that tells me to sign in with google. I would like to sign in with Microsoft, so I close the google sign-in tab, hoping it might bring up a another sign in option, but nope, it just gets stuck on the loading screen until I close and re-open the app, at which point the same thing happens. I'm not sure if this matters, but I'm signed into Windows with a Microsoft account, where the email ends in "@gmail.com", and the account I would like to sign into is not that same account.

    Dear @MadMax0rs,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on your description, may I please double confirm if the account in question is a Microsoft 365 educational account which is provided by your college/institution?

    • If you are using a student account, the most efficient solution would be to contact your university IT admin to report this issue and they can help you sign-in your Microsoft account as soon as possible.

Since you’re running into a common issue with the New Outlook for Windows where it defaults to a Google sign-in flow and doesn’t give you an option to sign in with a Microsoft account. According to my research, here are some quick methods I recommend you try:

Method 1: Reset New Outlook to first-run state

Would you please have a try to set new Outlook application to its first-run state and then if you can start from the scratch?

    • Close Outlook: Ensure that the Outlook application is closed.
    • Open Run Dialog: Press Win + R to open the Run dialog.
    • Execute Command: Type or paste: olk.exe --clearLocalState, then press Enter.
    • On the below pop up, click Yes.
    • After all above, relaunch New Outlook app, you should be able to add accounts as normal.

    • Data Loss: This command will remove all accounts and local data from the new Outlook application.
    • Reconfiguration: After running this command, you will need to reconfigure your accounts and settings when you open Outlook again.

Method 2: Reset via Windows Settings

    • Go to Settings → Apps → Installed Apps → Outlook (New).
    • Click Advanced Options → Reset (or Repair first if you want to try a lighter fix).

    Workaround

    • If you still can’t bypass Google sign-in, you can temporarily use Outlook on the web or Classic Outlook until the new app is fully reset.

I hope this information is helpful. If you have any other questions please feel free to reach out

Thank you for your patience and understanding. I'm looking forward for your reply.
