I want to get a descriptive statistics table from excel, but my input data is in range. Input data are: 11.4-20.45, 20.45-29.45 and such. It says that the input contains non-numeric number when I try to get descriptive statistics.

Regarding your concern, the issue you're encountering in Excel is due to the format of your input data. Excel's Descriptive Statistics tool requires numeric values, but your first column contains text ranges like 11.4–20.45, which Excel interprets as non-numeric. 

You need to convert the range values into a single representative number. Let me provide you two common approaches:

Option 1: Use the Midpoint of each range 

Create a new column where each range is replaced by its midpoint: 

You can calculate the midpoint in Excel using a formula like: 

 =(LEFT(A2,FIND("–",A2)-1)+MID(A2,FIND("–",A2)+1,LEN(A2)))/2 

(Assuming your range is in cell A2) 

Option 2: Use the Lower Bound of each range 

This is simpler and works well if you're treating the ranges as bins. 

Once you replace the ranges with numeric values, you can run the Descriptive Statistics tool successfully
