After 3 years, I used my account again but only to find out I can't leave a specific class channel I'm in. There's no "more option" and I have no contact to the owner of the channel. What to do?

    Dear @Mhay,

Thank you for reaching out regarding your difficulty in leaving a specific class channel in Microsoft Teams. We acknowledge that after reactivating your account following a three-year break. You encountered a situation where the usual “Leave Channel” option is not available, and you're no longer have contact with the channel owner.

This issue is common in Microsoft Teams for Education environments, where student accounts are often restricted from leaving class teams independently. While you cannot leave the class team directly, here are a few steps you can take to reduce its visibility and minimize disruption:

    1. Hide the Team:
    • In the Teams list (left sidebar), hover over the team's name.
    • Click the three dots (⋯) for More options.
    • Select Hide.
    1. Turn Off Notifications:
    • Go to the channel within the team.
    • Click More options (⋯) next to the channel → Channel notifications → Set to Mute.
    • If the “⋯” menu isn’t available:
    • Try accessing Teams via the desktop or web app instead of mobile.
    • Note that some channels (like “General”) may have restricted notification settings

I strongly recommend that you contact your school’s IT department as soon as possible. They have the necessary permissions to remove you from the class team or adjust the settings to allow you to leave.

We're truly sorry for the inconvenience, especially when it affects your workflow. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to support you. If you need any further assistance or clarification, don't hesitate to reach out to us. We're more than happy to help.
