Opening, sharing, and managing OneDrive-stored documents directly within Teams
Hello @Amazing Cloete,
Thanks for reaching out to the community.
Regarding your concern, you're trying to prevent PowerPoint files from automatically opening in the PowerPoint app when accessed through Microsoft Teams, especially to avoid the slide changer interface that slows down your interaction. As of now, Teams allows you to control how Office files open. Let me show you how to change the default file open behaviors in Teams.
You can configure Teams to open PowerPoint files directly in Teams or in the browser, rather than launching the PowerPoint desktop app.
- Open Microsoft Teams (Desktop or Web)
- Click your profile picture in the top-right corner.
- Select Settings.
- Go to the Files and links section.
- Under Always open Word, PowerPoint and Excel files in, choose one of the following:
- Teams – Opens files within the Teams interface.
- Browser – Opens files in your default web browser.
- Desktop App – Opens files in the native PowerPoint app (this is the default you're trying to avoid).
