Hello, janet>

Welcome to the Microsoft community!

I have realized that Microsoft 365 appears when you install Office 2024.

You should first visit the https://account.microsoft.com/services to check if Office 2024 under the account. If so, confirm that the current product is the same as the version of Office pre-installed on your computer.
Click on the Windows icon and open Settings>Applications>Installed Apps, confirm whether it is Microsoft 365 en-us or Office 2024.

If shows Microsoft 365, you should uninstall it. If it is indeed Office 2024, you open Word, click File > Accounts, and confirm the current license. Let me know if there's an error code or something. Here is the Office 2024 installer, you can install with it. https://officecdn.microsoft.com/pr/492350f6-3a01-4f97-b9c0-c7c6ddf67d60/media/en-us/Home2024Retail.img

Feel free to post back if you need further assistance. >

Thank you for your understanding and patience and I look forward to hearing from you.>

I can't get the installer to complete. Just as its about to finish, I get message that the installation failed. I've removed all previous instances of Office and ran the license removal app. No joy.

Followed your suggestions. At first it didn't work. I would add a couple of comments.

I manually removed all Microsoft programs including OneDrive. Ran the program to remove "Office license files" as you suggested. Restarted my Mac. Then I ran the install file I downloaded when I purchased Office 2024. Once this finished...WAIT for the Microsoft Automatic updates to finish before opening any programs! I'm impatient, usually clicking on something to fast. The updates took longer than the original install. Then I opened Excel (just my preference). The same message appears that wants me to "Activate" Microsoft 365. I clicked on "Activate". This took me to My Microsoft Account and I selected "Office 2024" to activate. Everything now works just as I would have expected. Opened Word, I have no problems there either. Everything was activated.
