I recently purchased a certified refurbished surface laptop 7 with snapdragon plus processor from ebay. It looks and works like new and it's a great laptop, however I've notice there are random popping / crackling sounds in the audio. It seems to happen at random intervals and doesn't seem related to volume or what's playing. It also only seems to be happening through web browsers (I've tried both edge and chrome) but it doesn't matter what I'm playing - e.g. youtube, audible, spotify. Any media played via the browser has this random crackle or popping sound.

I tried playing back a local video file through media player and didn't hear it at all.

Anyone else experience this issue or how any ideas on how to troubleshoot?

I've already tried reinstalling the audio driver, disabling audio enhancements and dolby atmos.

Thanks in advance.

    Hello! How are you?

You can try some steps, such as performing a clean installation of the audio driver using DDU. The video driver can cause this issue, as it may interfere with the audio from the HDMI port and the laptop's speakers. Reinstall both.

    1. Go to your video card manufacturer's website (Links below) > Search for your video card or processor > Download the latest driver.

    AMD:

    https://www.amd.com/en/support/download/drivers.html

    Nvidia:

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/

    Intel:

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download-center/home.html

    • If you don’t know which your Video Driver is, press WINDOWS + X > Maximize the window > Select Task Manager > Click the Performance > Take a Screenshot GPU tab.
    1. Download DDU from the website below. Click *** Download DDU "Installer" ***.

    1. Install DDU.

    1. Enter Safe Mode. Press the shortcut CTRL + R > Type ''msconfig'' (without quotes) > Click on the ''System Boot'' tab > Check the ''Safe Boot'' option > Click ''OK''.
    2. In Safe Mode, open DDU > Select your GPU > Select the AMD, Nvidia or Intel device > Click on "Clean and Restart" > Wait for the program to completely uninstall the driver.
    3. When it restarts, open DDU again > Select the Audio Device Type > Select Realtek (Or Soundblaster if the Audio Driver is not from Realtek) > Click on "Clean and Restart".
    4. After restarting, exit Safe Mode. Press the CTRL + R shortcut > Type ''msconfig'' (without quotes) > Click on the ''General'' tab, check the ''Normal Startup'' option > Click ''OK''.
    5. When restarting the computer, install the video and audio driver > Choose the "Express Installation" or "Recommended Installation" option during the installation screen > Restart the computer after completing the installation.

NOTE: Your computer screen may flash a few times. Don't worry, this is normal.

    1. See if the problem persists.
