Unable to add an account created at portal.office.com for logging in to a Windows 10 PC

I always thought that a Microsoft account is either a Personal one (created at Hotmail, msn.com, outlook.com, etc) or a Workplace/School one (eg created at portal.office.com).

I am trying to add an account: [email protected] (created at portal.office.com) to log in to a Windows 10 Pro PC. But it says "Looks like this isn't a Microsoft account. Try another email or sign up for a new one."

Does this mean that for small businesses or home use, users have to log in to the PC with one Microsoft account while using another separate one to manage their Office 365 licenses?

    Hello,

    Try adding your user [at] somedomain [dot] onmicrosoft [dot] com account from Access work or school > Connect > Join this device to Azure Active Directory, see if it works.

    1.Once the computer is set up for an organization and you log in with an Office 365 user account, then the computer seems to be tied to the Office 365 account. The computer is not part of an Azure AD domain and the accounts are not Microsoft accounts, yet, they can log in straight into the computer.

    2.If you see a message that says We couldn't auto-discover a management endpoint matching the username entered. Please check your username and try again. If you know the URL to your management endpoint, please enter it., then you should try to re-enter your username and password. If it still doesn't work, you should check with your company support for the website that you need to provide in the Management endpoint text box. This is a website that probably looks like www.yourcompany.onmicrosoft.com.

    3.Other reference:
    The trick was deleting my Microsoft account from the registry at: HKEY_USERS.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\IdentityCRL\StoredIdentities\<Microsoft Account>
    (delete the key named as your Microsoft account name) and then adding your account back in by going to Start / Settings / Accounts.
