My client sends me an invitation to have multi-user access to his account, I received that invitation in my mail. When I try to accept it says "The existing user {******@domain.com} is not available for multi-user access. Please use a different email address instead."I have tried accepting invitations previously from my other clients. It worked in the past.

Hello Gaurav,

Thank you for using our Microsoft Advertising Community Forum!

Based on what you have explained, it seems that you are unable to accept an invitation from your client for accessing her/his account.

You may already have multi-user access if you work for an ad agency that manages other people's Microsoft Advertising accounts. Multi-user access allows a person to use just one user name to access multiple accounts owned by others. For example, an ad agency executive can use one set of credentials to sign in and work in multiple accounts owned by a variety of clients.

The benefits of multi-user access are twofold. First, multi-user access gives advertisers or ad agencies the flexibility to invite others to their account while keeping ultimate control on day-to-day account management. Second, invitees are able to keep one user name to sign in to Microsoft Advertising, regardless of how many accounts they have access to. This setup allows a client to directly manage a Microsoft Advertising account and grant access to other existing users of Microsoft Advertising.

Previously, some people may have used multi-user access to gain visibility into separate and distinct accounts that are organized under different manager accounts. If an agency or a large business inherited a Microsoft Advertising account (say, due to a merger), there was no way to consolidate two separate manager accounts into one parent manager account—until now.

Please make sure to remember that multi-user access only pertains to a user name and the accounts you have access to using a single set of credentials. When multi-user access is created, separate accounts stay separate even as you're able to access both with one user name. But when you establish a hierarchy, you're fundamentally changing the account structure, which impacts what you're able to do. To learn more about this topic please see the below help page:

How do I access Microsoft Advertising as an invited user?

If you have been invited as a new user, please make sure you understand what role you've been given, because it will determine what you can access and do in the account. Learn more about user roles.

Before you sign in, there are a couple of things that are good to know:

  • If you don't see the “Invitation to Microsoft Advertising” email shortly after the administrator for the account has invited you, check to make sure that it wasn’t delivered to your junk mail folder.
  • You have 30 days to activate your account after you receive the “Invitation to Microsoft Advertising” email.

Here's how to sign in to Microsoft Advertising for the first time.

  1. Find the email that was sent to you from Microsoft Advertising with the subject line "Invitation to Microsoft Advertising."
  2. Use the link provided in the email to begin activating your account.
  3. Choose the option that's best for you:
    • If the invitation is addressed to the email address you want to sign in with, then you'll just need to confirm your contact information (such as the email address that you'd like to use to receive critical alerts, which can be different from your user name), agree to the Microsoft Advertising Terms and Conditions, and select Save.
      -or-
    • If you want to sign in with a different email address or create a new one, select sign in using a different email address, and then select Sign in with a different Microsoft account in the new window. You'll be prompted to enter a different email address or to create a new one. Once your email address is set up, you can create an account so that you can access Microsoft Advertising.
  4. Once you've completed setup, you'll be taken back to Microsoft Advertising.

Problems with the email address you are using?

  • Remember that you can only use an email address (a Microsoft account) to sign in to Microsoft Advertising. See Signing in with a work account for more information.
  • If you have multi-user access, you'll need to use your consolidated user name and password to sign in to Microsoft Advertising. When enabled, multi-user access allows you to use one user name and password to access other people's manager accounts and the ad accounts they own. To learn more, see Managing your user name to access multiple accounts.
