Search and Replace adgroup-name during Google import

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a way to search and replace parts of the adgroup-name in my adgroups during the import from Google Ads.

I want to create a new naming concept for my campaigns and adgroups which contains the search engines name.

so for example:

Campaign:

DE-AT-CH_Google_Companyname_Brand

Adgroup:

de-at-ch_google_companyname_brand_missspellings

Unfortunately, the Google Import does not provide an option to search and replace the adgroup-name, so when I'm importing my campaigns from Google, my adgroups still contain the word "google".

Is there some kind of workaround or hidden option to replace the word "google" with "bing" on adgroup-level?

Best regards,

Thomas

    Hi Thomas

I hope you're doing well today!

If you're looking for a script or a programmatic way to rename your adgroup/campaign, you will need to register your application through API. I can only provide the resource for your reference as we don't support API concerns on this Forum.

Kindly check if this would be helpful AddImportJobs Service Operation - Campaign Management - Microsoft Advertising API | Microsoft Learn

We recommend that you ask your API question at the API Development Forum. In that forum you will find our API development engineers and partners who work with our APIs every day.

For immediate assistance with API you are always welcome to contact support directly.

I hope the information provided here will partly answer your question. If you have any additional questions, please reply to this post or reach out to our support.

    Hi Mark,

thank you for your fast and detailed reply.

I already thought about changing the adgroup names by hand every time, but that's not going to work.

My plan is to import the account from Google on a daily basis, so on weekends, I would not be able to change the adgroup name.

Right now I'm searching for a Bing Ads script, that allows me to rename the adgroups. I would plan the execution of the script for every day, right after the Google import. That solution is not as clean as changing the name during the import process, but I hope it's still working.

    Best regards,

    Thomas

    Hi Thomas

I hope you're doing well today!

Thank you for using Microsoft Advertising Forum Community. I'll be happy to provide you information regarding your concern on creating/updating the name for your campaign and ad groups during import from Google.

Please be informed that there are two options in doing Google import. It can be the regular import option which can be found on the campaigns section or the import from Merchant center.

Now that you've imported your campaigns from Google Ads, you can check the status of your import, review error logs, and edit, pause, or delete your import schedule. Keep in mind that not all information will be imported, but that doesn't mean it's not supported within Microsoft Advertising. So, after you import, be sure to review your campaigns to make sure everything is good to go and add the missing information back to your campaigns.

Kindly check the Main entities imported and updated for search campaigns. Please see resource: What gets imported from Google Ads (microsoft.com)

Campaign name: Campaign names in Microsoft Advertising are not case-sensitive. If you import or re-import campaigns named “Coffee Sales” and “coffee sales” from Google Ads, you will see an error for a duplicate campaign name. However, if you import a campaign named “Coffee Sales” under an account that already contains a campaign named “coffee sales”, we recognize them as the same, and will update accordingly.

Ad group name: Ad group names in Microsoft Advertising are not case-sensitive. If you import or re-import ad groups named “Coffee Sales” and “coffee sales” from Google Ads, you will see an error for a duplicate ad group name. However, if you import a campaign named “Coffee Sales” under a campaign that already contains an ad group named “coffee sales”, we recognize them as the same, and will update accordingly.

    Suggested workaround:

You can edit a campaign or ad group name once it was successfully imported from Google ads to Microsoft advertising.

I hope the information provided here will partly answer your question. If you have any additional questions, please reply to this post or reach out to our support.
