Here are some steps you may want to take:
- Run Outlook in Safe Mode (Checks for Add-in Conflicts)
- Press Windows + R >Type: outlook.exe /safe >Enter.
- If Outlook opens in Safe Mode, the problem is likely caused by a faulty add-in.
- Go to File > Options > Add-ins.
- At the bottom, select COM Add-ins and click Go….
- Uncheck all add-ins, restart Outlook normally.
- At the bottom, select COM Add-ins and click Go….
- Go to File > Options > Add-ins.
- Repair Microsoft Office (Fixes Corrupted Files)
- Press Windows + R >Type appwiz.cpl >Enter.
- Find Microsoft Office 2016 > Click Change.>Select Quick Repair > Repair.
- If Quick Repair fails, try Online Repair (more thorough).
- Restart your PC and try Outlook again.
- Update Office 2016 (Ensure Latest Patches)
- Open Word or Excel > File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
- Microsoft may have released a fix for your issue.
- Create a New Outlook Profile
- Open Control Panel > Mail (32-bit).
- Click Show Profiles > Add.
- Name it (e.g., "OutlookNew") and set up your email.
- Set this profile as default and restart Outlook.
- Check for PST/OST Corruption (If Data File is Damaged)
- __Press Windows + R, type: _outlook.exe /scanpst ___
- Follow prompts to scan and repair your Outlook data file.
- Disable Hardware Graphics Acceleration (If Outlook Crashes on Launch)
- Open Outlook in Safe Mode (outlook.exe /safe).
- Go to File > Options > Advanced.
- Under Display, check "Disable hardware graphics acceleration".
- Restart Outlook normally.
- Reinstall Office 2016
- Uninstall:
- Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program.
- Select Microsoft Office 2016 > Uninstall.
- Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program.
- Reinstall:
- Download from office.com (sign in with your Microsoft account).
If all above do not work, please check Event Viewer for errors:
- Press Windows + R, type eventvwr.msc.
- Go to Windows Logs > Application and look for Outlook errors.
- Temporarily disable antivirus (e.g., McAfee, Norton) as it may block Outlook.
If Outlook 2016 keeps failing, consider upgrading to Microsoft 365 (subscription-based) for better stability and support.
