Hi all,

I have a question - on careful reviewing of the Data Box documentation it says "Only fixed VHDs can be uploaded to create managed disks. Dynamic VHDs, differencing VHDs, and VHDX files aren't supported." My disk file is a VHDX. I already selected "managed disks" during creation. Can I place the VHDX in the "PageBlobs" folder instead to ensure that it uploads correctly?

Also, does the line "When VHDs with duplicate names are found, only one is converted to a managed disk with that name. The remaining VHDs are uploaded as page blobs into the staging storage account." mean that even placed in the managed disks folder the VHDX will be uploaded as page blob? Or should I even place it outside the folders to ensure it uploads as a page blob as denoted here: "Always copy the VHDs to one of the pre-created folders. VHDs placed outside of these folders or in a folder that you created are uploaded to Azure Storage accounts as page blobs instead of managed disks."?

You are correct that Azure Data Box only supports fixed VHD files for creating managed disks. Since your disk file is a VHDX, it cannot be uploaded directly as a managed disk

To ensure your VHDX file uploads correctly, you can place it in the "PageBlobs" folder. This will upload the VHDX file as a page blob

Regarding the handling of VHDs with duplicate names, the documentation states that only one VHD with a duplicate name will be converted to a managed disk, while the remaining VHDs will be uploaded as page blobs

This means that even if you place a VHDX file in the managed disks folder, it will not be converted to a managed disk but will be uploaded as a page blob

To ensure your VHDX file is uploaded as a page blob, you should place it in the "PageBlobs" folder or outside the pre-created folders

This way, it will be uploaded to Azure Storage accounts as page blobs instead of managed disks.
