I understand that your VM was down due to process or authorised user. May i know if your issue was resolved or required any troubleshooting steps or further any recommendations.
It seems the reboot is likely due to guest OS patching inside the server.
You can review the Azure Activity Log to determine if there are any records pertaining to the shutdown event or reboot activity.
The detailed cause must be investigated inside the VM by reviewing system logs by navigating to the path / var/ log/ syslog and / var/ log/ messages.

Could you please share the logs by navigating to inside the VM by reviewing system logs at a path / var/ log/ syslog, / var/ log/ messages, / var/ log/ kern.log files.
