I am trying to setup a test pilot for upgrade Windows 10 workstations to Windows 11. In Intune I created the Feature Update for Windows 11 24h2 and applied it to my test group. I then created an update ring for the feature update. Is my understanding correct when I stated the Feature Update defines the update version to go to, where as the update ring settings define things like the overall maintenance window, how long users can defer the update etc.. In short both are needed. If this correct my test group for the feature update has been sitting at an in progress status for two days and the devices do not seem to me picking up the update.

You need Feature Update only if you want to keep your Windows in previous build rather than newer one. So, if your target is to upgrade to last, 24H2, you can do this only by using Update Rings and not even configure Feature Update.

If you use Feature Update together with Update Rings, there was a known issue that you must set Feature Upgrade deadline and postpone days to 0 days in Update Ring settings. Otherwise it would conflict.

I noticed my test device in Windows Update shows the check-in status as Not Applicable. I have since moved the device to a workstation that does not have any onprem WSUS settings applied since I have read this can cause a problem. How can I tell if the device is picking up Update settings from Intune.
