SCVMM VM - Update Failed - Refresh Virtual Machine - Seeking fix

Hello,

I have an ongoing issue with SCVMM and Citrix where VDI VMs will enter a failed state. In some instances it can be fixed by Repairing the VM and choosing Ignore. In other cases the VM will continue to fail and needs to be completely deleted and replaced.

It seems to occur most often when many machines are starting or restarting at the same time, but I cannot guarantee that's the problem since it occurs randomly and the frequency varies.

When the error occurs the VM status goes to Failed and the job has the following details:
Name: Refresh Virtual Machine
Status: Failed
Command: Read-SCVirtualMachine
Owner: (name of the service account used by Citrix)
Error (1730) - The selected action could not be completed because the virtual machine i not in a state in which the action is valid.

This is on SCVMM 2022 with Citrix DaaS and the latest agent installed on the VDI. The hosts that the VDI are on are in a cluster. It has also happened on SCVMM 2019 and with VDI using the Citrix ltsr agent.

I have opened tickets with MS and Citrix without much progress which is why I am posting here. Has anyone else had this issue, know why this occurs, know of a fix, or how to prevent this from happening?

Thank you for any help.

    Hello,

We have a similar problem here with SCVMM and Citrix VMs, but with MCS.

The restart problems occur both in the old OnPrem environment and in the freshly set up DaaS environment.

The VM is shut down and the resources are removed. An error occurs when adding the diff-vhdx.

"Error (10608) Cannot create or update a highly available virtual machine because Virtual Machine Manager could not locate or access C:\ClusterStorage\Volume##"

This is followed by error 1730. ‘The selected action could not be completed because the virtual machine is not in a state in which the action is valid.’

We add the diff-vhdx again, solve the error in VMM and start the VM.

We contact both Citrix Support and Microsoft Support. So far no solution has been found.

We would be grateful for any further information or help.
