Copying and pasting from a Microsoft Teams chat window no longer includes the sender's name and timestamp.

Starting today February 19 2025, right after a Teams update, I'm no longer able to copy/paste my chat logs into my service tickets. As a level1 tech, this is an absolute necessity for accurate record keeping.

I've tried the <ctrl>+C and <ctrl>+v as has worked in the past as well when MS saw it in their infinite wisdom to arbitrarily change a feature used by many in our field. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

In case anyone wants to offer the 'use Zoom' work-around. It has been considered, but Teams fits better overall with our ecosystem. Thanks in advance.

I have resorted to using Copilot to OCR teams conversations. Its terribly useless to allow users to copy the contents of a conversation, but not who is conversing.

Maybe MS should consider blocking copying text from teams altogether, that way it will be pretty clear to users that teams conversations are not intended to be copied.

Or go one step further and disallow input, that way the developers don't have to keep spending effort on curating code to determine what can be copied.

There used to be a workaround that if you kept the mouse button held while pressing ctrl-c you could copy the user and timestamp of the post, but I see that has now be defeated also.

There's not solution a least you use transcript or;

Also did you try reinstalling teams or using an older version? In my case I'm still able to copy and paste with all info. probably because I'm still using an older version.

Sorry to hear this, this is most likely a fix made by Microsoft in a recent update. Because before this, there was feedback from users that it was easy to copy the wrong timestamp information when copying.

If you still need the original copy function, or want both copy functions as options, please submit feedback in Microsoft Feedback. Many features of our current products are designed and upgraded based on customers’ feedback. With requirements like this increase, the problem may well be released in the future.

Losing names and timestamps makes copy/pasting teams conversations almost unusable.
Additionally, the popup menu for reacting to and editing messages covers the timestamp and sender as you are trying to manually copy each entry.

Quick question to Microsoft - Why is the MASSIVE amount of negative feedback regarding this change being ignored?

We're told to post feedback to get changes considered by Microsoft. This has been done on countless occasions.

We're told to upvote feedback posts to get greater consideration. Some of those posts have enormous amounts of upvotes.

However, to date I have seen no acknowledgement from Microsoft that this is an issue that they need to address. I understand that there were a few people that wanted this change to begin with but there was no consideration about the countless others who need the metadata. This was a gross overcorrection and if a simple switch cannot be added to settings for users to select how they want copy/paste to work, it should be reverted! At least before the few people who did not want the data could choose to delete it. Now we have NO OPTION AVAILABLE to get this data.
