Issues with LAPS UI Configuration on Windows Server 2019

We are configuring LAPS on Windows Server 2019. Everything is working well except when we install LAPS UI on the client's computer to check the Admin password when it's needed for support. We can get the LAPS user password through PowerShell, but we don't get anything when we try to use LAPS UI. I'm using my domain admin user and tried running the UI as an administrator .

What could be causing this? And How can we solve it?

    Hello

Here are a few steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue with LAPS UI.

    1.Check Permissions:

Ensure that the domain admin account you're using has the necessary permissions to view the LAPS passwords. You can verify this by checking the permissions on the computer object in Active Directory.

    2.Verify LAPS Configuration:

Make sure that LAPS is correctly configured on both the server and the client machines. You can use the LAPS PowerShell module to verify the configuration.

    3.Update Active Directory Schema:

Ensure that the Active Directory schema has been updated to support LAPS. You can run the Update-LapsADSchema cmdlet to update the schema if needed.

    4.Check Event Logs:

Look at the Event Viewer under Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > LAPS > Operational to see if there are any error messages that might give more insight into the issue.

    5.Reinstall LAPS UI:

Try reinstalling the LAPS UI on the client machine to see if that resolves the issue.

    Best Regards,

    Yanhong

    Hello

So we followed the steps you mentioned

    1. Check Permissions:

My user is part of the Domain Admins. I have checked the LAPS Admin password on the client machine (a Windows Server 2019) and the Domain Controller, through Powershell both work.

    2. Verify LAPS Configuration and 3. Update Active Directory Schema

This was done during the LAPS new installation process, but here is the output we got. Keep in mind that it's the same as when it was installed.

    4. Check Event Logs

In the events, there is no sign of any error occurring.

    5. Reinstall LAPS UI

We tried this while we were waiting for any response but there was no success.

I have some doubts I would like to ask:

    • Are there any manuals or instructions on how to configure LAPS UI on LAPS NEW? When I searched about this topic all of them used the LAPS Legacy commands to configure it.

Do the same commands work for LAPS NEW?

    Thanks.
