Outlook 2019, permissions given on calendar but they just don't work

Simple setup.

Exchange Server 2016 latest CU.

Outlook 2019.

UserA with mailbox has default calendar. Permissions on that calendar are set to owner for another userB.

When userB adds an item in the calendar of userA it is added. But when he wants to delete it (his own created item) the system says he has not the correct permissions to do it, allthough he has owner permissions.

I have already removed the rights and set it back but no improvement.

When userB goes via the owa he can delete his item in the shared calendar if userA.

What could be a possible reason that the working is not as expected? It has worked in the past and there are no implementation of updates or changes whatsoever.

    Here are some solutions you may refer to:

    1. Permission Propagation
      • Sometimes, changes in permissions might not propagate correctly. You can try removing UserB's permissions completely, saving the changes, and then re-adding them. Ensure you set the permissions correctly.
    2. Delegate Settings:
      • Ensure that there are no conflicting delegate settings. Sometimes, delegate permissions can interfere with direct folder permissions.
    3. Re-add shared mailbox
      • If you make sure that the permission settings are in order, it is recommended that B remove and re-add User A's shared mailbox to see if there are any differences.
    4. Outlook Cache:
      • Outlook might be using cached permissions. Try clearing the cache (Right-click the shared mailbox>Properties>Under General, Clear Offline Items) or turn off cache mode to see if the issue persists.
    5. Update Outlook
      • Since UserB can delete items via OWA, the issue might be specific to the Outlook client. Ensure that Outlook is up to date. You can also try repairing the Outlook installation by going to Control Pane>Programs>Programs and feature>Repair.

    If all above do not work, considering data file corruption, it is proposed that user B creates a new profile, re-adds the account and the shared mailbox to the new profile, and check if the same issue still occurs.
