Activity notifications in Teams when a news is posted to Viva connections not working

Hi

We've been using Viva Connections for some time and recently we stopped receiving notifications in the "Activity" tab in Teams when a news post is posted from Sharepoint. This was working well but all of a sudden it stopped working. This feature is crucial on getting more views and engagement on the news posts.

We are experiencing the same issue. Loved this feature so much. Is it because we are currently using a free version of Viva Connections?

@Jessica Collins, loved this feature also! So easy to reach all employees and I saw a lot of increasement in engagement on the news posts. I don't think it's because of we're using the "free" version, unless Microsoft changed something... I found a quick fix to get this working again though, but that requires the user to "Follow" the Sharepoint site that posted the news.

Hi,

We’ve been experiencing an issue since early October 2024. The news posts we’ve been publishing on our Intranet page have seen a significant drop in views and engagement. Upon investigation, we noticed that some users are receiving notifications (in the Activity tab on Teams) for new posts, while others are not. It seems to be inconsistent.

We haven’t made any changes on our end. I’ve checked the Viva Connections settings, and everyone in the organization should be receiving notifications for new posts. Additionally, I reviewed the Viva Connections criteria, and we appear to meet the requirements.

Could I please get some clarification or assistance from someone at Microsoft? We’d like to know if this issue requires action on our part or if it’s something that will resolve itself. Any insight into what might be happening would be greatly appreciated.

We had the same issue but ours actually just started working again this week. Didn't work for around 2 weeks and people are magically receiving notifications again (yay!) Hopefully yours starts working soon.

We have the same issue on 2 tenants. It was working flawlessly, then this week it just stopped. Microsoft has changed something on the backend for sure. Nothing has changed in our settings on Viva Connections. Very frustrating. How do I explain this to clients? They loved this feature.

Issue Symptom: We've been using Viva Connections for some time and recently we stopped receiving notifications in the "Activity" tab in Teams when a news post is posted from Sharepoint.

Resolution: User need require the user to "Follow" the SharePoint site that posted the news.

Hi unfortunately this solution didn't work for us. I'm following all the relevant sites and still no alerts. Also, the alerts were working perfectly from early August (when I assume MS rolled out the new feature) and all of a sudden stopped working last Thursday October 17 (I literally posted a story the day before and alerts worked)> I didn't make any change to any of my settings on that date so assume it was a change at Microsoft's end?

The issue isn't resolved! This is only a workaround at best, and it doesn't work.

Incorrect. Users were already following the sites. This used to work with no issues and it just stopped.

Does the issue occur in the Teams web client?

If the issue only occurs in the Teams desktop client, try clearing the Teams cache and updating Teams to the latest version.

Additionally, on Teams desktop and web, specific notification types can be selectively enabled or disabled under settings under Viva Connections > Notifications and activity, please ensure your settings have not been modified.

Finally, please make sure your Teams status. If your status is Do not disturb, you may not receive notifications from activities.

The issue is the same for all users in our organisation and it's the same on web client, desktop and mobile app. It's not just the notifications, but the new news stories are not shown in the activity feed at all on any version of the app, so not a cache issue.

It's the same on tenants here in South Africa - different tenants, was working flawlessly one day and the next day, it stopped. No change to any settings on the tenant. Microsoft changed something.
