Block Passwords App in iPadOS/iOS Using Intune

We have just updated our organization's shared iPads to iPadOS 18. With the updated, the new Passwords app has been installed which could cause some security problems. Because of this, we will need to block users from accessing the Passwords app. By researching the Microsoft Learn site, there doesn't seem to be an update to restrict the new iPadOS features.

So far, I have attempted to block the app via Devices > iOS/iPadOS Configuration > Device restrictions > Built-in apps. This is where we've previously blocked apps such as FaceTime and Find My, however there doesn't appear to be an option. I've also tried configuring the Show or Hide Apps policy but this seems to only be for third party apps.

If there are any alternatives to blocking the Passwords app, or upcoming updates within Intune to block the new iPadOS features, some solutions would be greatly appreciated.

@Sebastian Hans, Thanks for posting in Q&A. According to the following article, I find when we configure app under "Show or Hide apps", others such as the built-in apps Contacts/Camera/Appstore will be hidden from the user, giving you an experience similar to that of multi-app kiosk mode.

    https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/intune-customer-success/support-tip-enabling-kiosk-mode-on-android-and-ios-devices/ba-p/390965#:~:text=From%20the%20Intune%20portal%2C%20go%20to%20Device%20Configuration,then%20choose%20the%20app%20you%20want%20to%20use.

We can configure the required apps under "Show or Hide apps" under device restriction and see if the new Passwords app will be hidden.

If there's any update, feel free to let us know.

I've followed some of Crystal's advice and here are my findings:

I could hide the Passwords App by using the Show or Hids App configuration settings.

I didn't need to configure Kiosk mode in any way. However, I did need to research to find the required information, as Apple hasn't even updated their records of preinstalled apps. The configuration is as follows:

    • Type of apps list: Hidden apps
    • App store URL: https://apps.apple.com/au/app/passwords/id6473799789
      • Please note: This is for the Australian App store. Swap out "au" from the link if the device is configured to a different region.
      • App bundle ID: com.apple.Passwords
        • Please note: This is case-sensitive
        • App name: Passwords
    • Publisher: Apple
