Looking for best approach to whitelisted websites.

Dear community,

I have been trying to learn about best approach to block the internet and only whitelist services used.

Goal here is to give additional protection layer at work where any phishing links, scam attempts etc would simply not work.

There has to be a way in Microsoft either from Windows settings or perhaps Edge internet policies to achieve such level of URL filtering that I am missing. We have a system in place but its complicated and based on router filtering or something like that. Limitation of this is that we still cannot get Microsoft services webpages to work e.g. Excel Online etc.

There are several ways to achieve this:

Some Routers allow Whitelisted websites and block the blocklists.

You can modify the hosts file to allow whitelisted websites only.

Apply firewall rules to allow whitelisted URLs only.

Set up a custom DNS server that allows whitelisting specific domains.

From Edge browser side, you can use these group policies: URLBlocklist and URLAllowlist.

You can first enable URLBlocklist and include '*' in the block list to block all requests, then enable URLAllowlist to allow access to a limited list of URLs.
