Update for Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 Update 3 failed with error 1603.

Bulletin ID : MSWU-2090, KB : KB3165756

I tried to install the above patch, but it failed.

Just to double confirm, you have "VS 2015" and "VS 2015 Update 3" installed on your machine right?

Is it mandatory to install both VS 2015" and "VS 2015 Update 3 to update Bulletin ID : MSWU-2090, KB : KB3165756.

Hi @Rakesh,

Please run CMD as administrator(search CMD in Windows Search box, right-click, Run as administrator), use cd C:\XXXXX command(for example, cd C:\MyDownloadFolder) to enter to the folder where the update package is stored. Run vs14-kb3165756.exe /uninstall command, click "Repair" button, see if it works.

If you get warnings about "Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable packages", try to uninstall the existing one from Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program(find the program, right-click, uninstall). After that run above command and repair again.

If the VS installation program provides more details(log file), please kindly share the detailed error message here for further check.

Do you still want to uninstall...

I mean uninstall the installed higher version of "Microsoft Visual C++ XXXX Redistributable packages" from Control Panel, instead of VS 2015, or VS 2015 Update 3.

On my side, based on my test, I have installed the latest version of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable packages. The warnings mentioned that one of the previous versions of this package cannot be installed as a higher version of this package has been installed, so I have to uninstall it and then the repairing will complete and success.

But, maybe on your side, on your machine, this isn't an issue.
