im here because the regular microsoft forum community directed me to post my question here ,

being that it is more of a iot enterprise question.

my problem is with the windows 11 iot ltsc evaluation iso .

the windows defender does not open up at all, or work at all .

when you attempt to open it, you get a message saying you need a new app to open this link.

I tried any and all of the recommended solutions that are everywhere on the internet,

nothing works.

i wouldnt care so much since this is just the eval version , but the issue i have is microsoft wont allow regular people to download and own a full iot ltsc copy ,

but yet microsoft allows the home user to download an evaluation copy.

Im pretty much fed up completely with microsoft because the home user has to reinstall new windows every 2 years , meanwhile big business can stay on iot ltsc and recieve security updates for 10 years.

my issue with this is why cant the home end user have the option to recieve a long term type update channel option so that they do not have to get a new version of windows every 2 years or less.

i want my windows os to run exactly how i want it, how it ran a year ago , I dont want any changes, I dont want new features showing up because of forced updates.

is there anything you could recommend .

thank you for your time and support.

chris .

all of these methods dont seem to work .

also, it does not look like windows security was even fully installed in this eval version.

I know this because when you go into system, apps, and or systems apps list,

windows security or defender is not anywhere on the installed apps lists.

i read somewhere that in the next release of iot ltsc coming soon,

the official iso might have windows defender or security pulled and taken out,

maybe thats why its also not in this eval version.

    Hello,

For the specific technical problem with Windows Defender not opening or working on your Windows 11 IoT LTSC evaluation version, here are some steps you can try:

    1. Check Windows Services:

Press Win + R to open the Run dialog.

    Type services.msc and press Enter.

Look for services named "Windows Defender Antivirus Service" and "Windows Defender Antivirus Network Inspection Service."

Ensure these services are set to "Automatic" and are running.

    1. Group Policy Settings:

Press Win + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter.

Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Defender Antivirus.

Ensure that policies like "Turn off Windows Defender Antivirus" are not enabled.

    1. Registry Settings:

Incorrect registry settings can cause issues with Windows Defender.

Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.

    Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender.

Ensure the DisableAntiSpyware value is set to 0 or does not exist.

    1. SFC and DISM Tools:

You can use the System File Checker (SFC) and Deployment Imaging Service and Management Tool (DISM) to repair potentially corrupted system files.

Open Command Prompt as an administrator.

Run sfc /scannow and wait for the process to complete.

If issues persist, run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.

If none of the above steps resolve the issue with Windows Defender, you might consider reinstalling the evaluation version.
