We have purchased Microsoft 365 Business Premium for Nonprofits, which includes access to a cloud-based version of Windows. However, we're encountering a problem when trying to install Windows—error code 0x8007007B appears.

This issue isn't isolated to us; three other NGOs who have also obtained the same free licenses are experiencing the same problem. The installation is being attempted on a standard PC, with activation linked to a Microsoft 365 work account.

Could you please advise on how to resolve this issue?

    Hello,

If your organization is receiving the error code 0x8007007B when trying to activate Windows included with your Microsoft 365 Nonprofit license, this usually points to an issue with Windows activation. This error typically indicates that the operating system is unable to locate the correct activation servers, possibly due to a DNS issue or a problem with the license configuration.

Here are some steps you can follow to attempt to check the issue:

    1. Verify License and Subscription Status

Make sure your Microsoft 365 Nonprofit subscription is active and that you have been assigned a license that includes Windows access.

    1. Check Internet Connection

Ensure you have a reliable internet connection as the activation process requires communication with Microsoft’s activation servers.

    1. Run the Windows Activation Troubleshooter

Navigate to Settings > Update & Security > Activation.

Click on Troubleshoot and follow the prompts.

    1. Use Command Prompt to Activate

Open Command Prompt with administrative privileges and attempt the following commands:

Type slmgr.vbs /ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx and press Enter to input your product key (replace the Xs with your actual product key).

Then type slmgr.vbs /ato and press Enter to attempt activation.

    Best Regards,

    Hania Lian
