I use LPR port 515 on shared print queue to send print job to print solution.
I noticed occasionally lost job not seen in the print solution, but processed by the spooler.
Event log says:
The document Microsoft Word - xxx.docx, owned by user1, failed to print on printer yyy_Printer.

Try to print the document again, or restart the print spooler.

Data type: NT EMF 1.008. Size of the spool file in bytes: 474456.

Number of bytes printed: 157560. Total number of pages in the document: 1. Number of pages printed: 0.

Client computer: CPPCUSER1. Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 5. Access is denied.

    Hello Pech, Miroslav,

After conducting advanced troubleshooting, I've found the following:

[Line Printer Daemon (LPD) protocol] Using this deprecated protocol to print might not work as you expect or fail. This issue occurs after you install the July 9, 2024, and later updates.

The line printer daemon protocol (LPR/LPD) is deprecated. When this feature is eventually removed, clients that print to a server using this protocol, such as UNIX clients, will not be able to connect or print. Instead, UNIX clients should use IPP. Windows clients can connect to UNIX shared printers using the Windows Standard Port Monitor (see https://support.microsoft.com/kb/246868for more information).

I hope the above information helps.

    Hello,

Based on the error message "Client computer: CPPCUSER1. Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 5. Access is denied," it's important to ensure that the user account user1 has the necessary permissions to print on the printer yyy_Printer.

However, given the intermittent nature of the issue, finding the root cause can be challenging. Here are some advanced troubleshooting steps to consider:

    1. Network Traffic Analysis: use a network monitoring tool (e.g., Wireshark) to capture traffic on port 515. Look for anomalies or unusual behavior in the captured packets, such as dropped packets or unexpected responses.
    2. Monitor Print Server Resources: Monitor the CPU, memory, and disk usage on the print server to ensure that resource limitations are not causing intermittent failures.
    3. Test with Smaller Files: Send smaller print jobs to see if they are processed successfully.
    4. Firewall and Security Software: Check the firewall rules to ensure that LPR traffic on port 515 is allowed. Temporarily disable security software to see if it interferes with print jobs.
