Hi,
When i want to update manually the cumulative update is 800 MB. When i want the same cumulative update via powershell it is 10 GB. What am i doing wrong?
powershall command:
Install-WindowsUpdate -MicrosoftUpdate -AcceptAll

I'd expect the -AcceptAll switch is going to grab more updates than just a single cumulative update.
even if i use the -KBArticleID with the kb number in the command line option to update only with the cumulative the update remains 10 GB. is there a special toggle to choose the 800 MB version?
Is this an example of what you see? I have a Win10 VM and it's showing that KB5040427 is 104GB in size. That's not going to work since my VM only has a 60GB drive.
I found the update in the SoftwareDistribution folder and it's showing as 640MB. That's closer to your 800MB download.
I don't know where that number is coming from. Since it's a cumulative update I'll speculate that it's the largest possible size for a PC that had zero updates installed.

It's more likely that it displays more components or dependency than OS upgrade only. It's recommended to consider "Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update" as the standard upgrade size.

how do i do the setting via powershell. i want to update pc's remotely. the remote pc's are lagging 1 or 2 months behind. they don't need all the updates starting from the first release.

Does it actually download the full 10 GB? IE; do you see some subfolder of SoftwareDistribution that occupies 10 GB of space?
I would think that it has nothing to do with the "version of this month", but rather it is based on the patches that a given PC already has installed. What it downloads is a version that has a dependency of KBnnnnnn (whatever that might be) to be installed. In that case there is no need to download the files in that KB that have not changed by the cumulative update. Those files are already on the PC and there is no need to download and reinstall them.
