The difference is a location on the file system:
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 19\Common7\IDE\ssms.pkgundef
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 20\Common7\IDE\ssms.pkgundef

There is no native Dark Mode in any version of SSMS, there are few workarounds described in previous answers

Bryan Diercks 6 Reputation points2025-12-05T17:54:55.7766667+00:00 The instructions linked are for SQL Server Management Studio 18 but I can confirm the same steps work for SQL Server Management Studio 20, just the name of the main folder is different.
Unfortunately, the dark mode doesn't apply to all areas of SSMS, but the majority of people should be quite happy.
