how to extend C drive ?

If you want to extend your C drive but the option is greyed out, it is likely because there is no unused space on your hard drive. However, you can still extend your C drive by moving data from your D drive to an external drive, deleting the D drive partition from Disk Management, and then expanding your C drive. But be sure to make an important decision here: expand your C drive only to a point where you can recreate the D drive and move the data back to it. I did this on my Windows 11 laptop today and had no issues.

I have a recovery partition between the c and d drive Should i delete that recovery partition.

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

To extend the C drive in Windows 11, you may follow these steps:

Press the Windows key + X and select "Disk Management" from the menu.

In the Disk Management window, right-click on the C drive and select "Extend Volume".

In the Extend Volume Wizard, click "Next".

Select the amount of unallocated space you want to add to the C drive and click "Next".

Click "Finish" to complete the process.

This is poor answer. Behind C partition is not empty space but D partition.

I want to merge my unallocated space into my C drive. however the extend space feature is grayed out and the unallocated space is after my D Drive. Please advise. JD

You have to first create an unallocated drive. Follow below steps for creating unallocated drive

If data in D drive is 20 GB out of 100 GB then you have to move this 20 GB into separate place

You can Shrink the D drive and create a separate E drive with 50 GB space

Once E drive is created, move all the data from D drive to E drive

Once D drive is empty then Delete the volume of this D drive. By deleting the volume on D drive, it will create unallocated space

Now you can see the extend volume enabled in C drive, since you have an unallocated space available next to C drive

Does this option work when C&D are on separate physical drives?
I have 300gb unallocated on Disk 0, but the Extend option for C (on Disk1) is greyed out. Why?

I have the same problem, with the "Extend Volume" option grayed out both in win11 disc settings and in disc managment, but i have ~72 GB of unassigned storage on my ssd, so i doubt the size of the physical drive is the problem
