Cant remove work or school account from personal PC

recently left an organization and my ID there was disabled. When employed there, I used my personal PC for work as well as my own stuff. Now I get frequent requests to log in to my Work or School Account. How do I remove the Work account from my personal PC?

I have tried this on the Email and Account Settings page but when I click Manage, a web page opens and wants me to sign in to the work account, which I cannot do any longer.

How can I get rid of this account from my PC?

I tried this command

dsregcmd.exe /debug /leave

Didnt work either

I had this same problem. Windows 11 Pro version 23H2.

I was able to fix it by downloading this file:

https://download.microsoft.com/download/8/e/f/8ef13ae0-6aa8-48a2-8697-5b1711134730/WPJCleanUp.zip

I extracted the contents of WPJCleanUp.zip.

I went in to the folder called v2004 and RIGHT-clicked on the file called "CleanupWPJ_X86.exe" and then left-click on "Run as Administrator".
I don't know what this file does specifically, but it definitely got rid of the unwanted and otherwise un-removeable Work or School Account from my personal laptop.

I was successful finding the account under Settings>Accounts>Access Work or School on my Win 11 Pro system. I selected "disconnect" and restarted. Too easy! But no, this did not resolve my issue. The workplace OneDrive location still shows up when I save a new 365 file. I've tried most of the other suggestions in this thread and nothing has removed the workplace OneDrive location from my list of possible "save file" locations. Attempting to save to that location does not work as I am not logged into that account and cannot log into that account. I observe that rebuilding "clean" is the default last resort. This certainly worked with a personal laptop.

It is a bit frustrating that there seems to be no consistent and reliable way to remove a work or school join from a personal PC. I did figure out how to change the default save location to my personal OneDrive folder, so I guess it's out of sight and thus, out of mind.

This cleanup tool worked great for me, I had a similar issue with a previous employer. Never had an option to "Disconnect" only said "Manage"

I had the same problem. Windows 11 Pro v23H2.

What worked for me was this:

Download this file: https://download.microsoft.com/download/8/e/f/8ef13ae0-6aa8-48a2-8697-5b1711134730/WPJCleanUp.zip
Go to Downloads folder and unzip "WPJCleanUp.zip"
Go to the folder v2004
RIGHT-click on the file called "CleanupWPJ_X86.exe" and left-click on "Run as Administrator"

I could not tell you specifically what the file called "CleanupWPJ_X86.exe" does, but it definitely removed the unwanted Work or School Account from my personal laptop. Nothing else I had tried, had done any good at all.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WorkplaceJoin\TenantInfo

values which include old Work Account, then dsregcmd.exe /status was clean. No extra work accounts. Setup => Accounts didn't show that work account. Also Control Panel - Credential Manager - WIndows Credentials not included ... or didn't see it.

windows 10 still. but ive tried that that same suggestion - can't delete something that you don't see.

To remove a work or school account from your personal PC, you can follow these steps:

Open the "Settings" app on your PC. You can do this by clicking on the Start menu and selecting the "Settings" gear icon.

In the Settings window, click on the "Accounts" option.

On the left-hand side, select the "Access work or school" category.

In the right-hand pane, you should see the work or school account that you want to remove. Click on the account to select it.

Once the account is selected, click on the "Disconnect" button. This will initiate the process of removing the account from your PC.

You may be prompted to confirm the removal of the account. If so, click on the "Yes" or "Remove" button to proceed.

Windows will now remove the work or school account from your PC, along with any associated data or settings.

If the above method doesn't work for you or if you encounter any issues, you can try the following alternative solution:

Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box.

Type "control panel" (without quotes) and press Enter to open the Control Panel.

In the Control Panel, set the view to "Category" and click on the "User Accounts" option.

Under the "User Accounts" category, click on the "Credential Manager" option.

In the Credential Manager window, you should see a list of saved credentials. Look for any entries related to your work or school account.

The account doesn't show up in "ACCESS WORK OR SCHOOL" VIA SETTINGS, NOR does the account show up in "Manage credentials" via windows credntials or web credentials. The obsolete work account apears in all Office apps (365, and Visio).

I had a similar issue and found no solutions that were proposed worked for us. Just tried the Windows + R solution and was able to get into Credential Manager and remove the redundant work email address that kept coming up whenever I signed on. Hope it has now resolved the issue. Will close and reopen the computer and see! But no. Closed and reponed, and still the bally work email pops up first when I log in. It's been 4 years since I left that job!!! How can it be so hard to effect this change?
